Mini Marlins
Mini Marlins Program
Our "Mini Marlins" Swim Program is designed for swimmers who want the opportunity to be a part of the team but aren't quite ready to swim at competition level. By being a part of the team, these swimmers will gain confidence in learning the basic strokes of freestyle and backstroke and work towards being able to swim 25m across the pool unassisted. We will have limited space for this program and swimmers will be selected on a first come first serve basis and must pass an evaluation.
*NOTE* This is NOT a "learn to swim" program or individual swim lesson. Mini's should have already taken prior swim lessons and have an interest in joining the team in the next season. Swimmers must meet the following eligibility requirements and complete a try-out to join the program:
- Be willing to separate from their parent during practice
- Have the necessary listening skills to take direction from coaching staff and be comfortable in a group instruction environment
- Be willing to enter the water and put their head underwater for 5-10 seconds
- Must be willing and able to swim at least 10m unassisted, not touching the bottom of the pool in at least 5 feet of water
- Be comfortable floating on front or back for 5-10 seconds
- Be fully potty trained
If you are unsure whether your child should sign up for the Mini program or the main Marlin program, please reach out to a Board Member for guidance when registering.
Schedule for the Mini Program will be weekdays Tuesday-Friday with the 8&U portion of the team for 25 mins each day. Before school let's out, they will practice with the 8&Us at 5PM. Once school lets out for the summer, they will start at 7AM.
Mini Marlins will not be eligible to compete in the swim meets however there will be an exhibition meet for the mini's to show off their hard work and new skills at the end of the season! If at any point during the season a mini demonstrates the ability to be promoted to the full swim team, they can receive an evaluation by the coaching staff and participate in future swim meets if they demonstrate swimming 25m unassisted and without struggle.
We look forward to bringing back our Mini Program for the 2025 season!
